This Collection explores the spectacular Grands Causses along GR 62A from Meyrueis to La Roque-Sainte-Marguerite in France. You’ll have enough photo opportunities to fill an album as you hike 35 kilometres (21 mi) in two stages.
The region, a natural gem of France, boasts vast limestone plateaus, exceptional biodiversity, and breathtaking landscapes within the Grands Causses Regional Nature Park. The GR 62A route explores gateways to this wonder, passing through towns like Meyrueis, Dargilan, Veyreau, Saint-André-de-Vézines, Roquesaltes, and La Roque-Sainte-Marguerite, each stage revealing dizzying canyons or panoramic views of the causses.
While this adventure doesn’t require extreme fitness, you’ll need enough stamina for four to six hours of walking daily. Wear suitable hiking shoes and a comfortable rucksack, and pack a water bottle and camera to immortalise moments. Opt for lightweight food like energy bars and dried fruits, and carry plenty of water as drinking water sources, shops and restaurants are limited.
Logistics for A to B routes are often challenging; the easiest way to organise yourself is with two cars or by dropping off bicycles on arrival to return to the departure car park. Meyrueis is accessible by road from major towns in the region. You can also do this as a loop in two to four days.
As for accommodation, I suggest staying at the Cadenas Inn, which offers a traditional setting to recharge after a day of walking. Book via their website (in French): auberge-de-cadenas.fr.
Answer the call of the Grands Causses – lace up your boots, pack your bag, and embark on GR 62A. A memorable hiking experience awaits.
