If you’re looking for pre-Alpine MTB routes, this Collection is perfect for you. It contains four loops that start and finish at Brescia station, making them easy to access by train. Averaging 60 kilometres (37 mi) and 1,000 metres (3,200 ft) of elevation gain, these routes are ideal for one-day adventures.
The ideal bike to tackle these itineraries is a cross-country MTB. This will allow you to easily tackle the climbs, some of which are quite steep. You’ll also have lots of fun descending the paths and dirt roads. You can cycle these routes in practically any season, just be sure to check the weather forecast ahead of time in winter. As the temperatures approach freezing, ice can make rocky and rooty surfaces slippery, especially when they’re covered by leaves.
I’ve selected the areas richest in paths and MTB itineraries so you can explore the must-see areas in the province of Brescia without straying too far from the centre. These include Mount Maddalena, the Campiani hills, the Franciacorta hills, the first mountains south of the Trompia Valley and other interesting gems.
If you usually enjoy riding other types of bicycles and want to try out mountain biking, let these routes inspire you. Likewise, if you’re looking for training routes with similar altitude, length and technicality as the classic gran Fondos, you’ll find these interesting proposals.
After cycling and enjoying the beauty of this pre-Alpine area, I recommend visiting the city centre, with its squares, castle and Roman remains. Happy riding!
